Datacenter question?

    Hello,

I have my own box, (P4 3.4ghz, 1gb ram) that I would like to run as a server. The problem is, I'll need to house it at a datacenter or something because Verizon blocks port 80 and several others.

My question is as follows: How does a datacenter work? I've heard of other people bringing servers to datacenters.. but I've never actually done it. What is the process behind it? Do I just call one up, arrange for services, and then drop off my server? (Sorry, I'm kinda new at this)

You'll have to find a nice collocation provider. Then you'll have to select lines speed etc.

Although collocation can be the cheaper option it can be also the most painful.

If your server has a fault then you need to got to the data centre and fix the problem, even for a reboot. Some data centres will provide a suppport package but usually at a high rate, you can also purchase a remote PDU reboot in some places.

And normal tower boxes arent allowed in a DC. Rack server chasis is needed! Better lease a dedi box...they are quite cheap these days.
