Database User Missing

I really need some advice please:

I got someone to transfer a site to my server and all was fine for a week or so and then the site stopped loading.

On checking the forum for the script that the site runs on, I find that the first thing to do is check to see that the database and user and password in Cpanel all match those that are on the site.

When I check Cpanel I find out that there is no user at all assigned to the database and therefore the password and user are not correct! Is the user deleting its self realistically something that can ever happen with mysql or is it more likely that the person who installed the site for me went back and disabled the settings approximately a week or so later so that for some reason the site would not work?

I really need to know how feasible and realistic this scenario is before I point any fingers.

Well, if the site was working, then someone changed the database user/pass... The only other senario I can think of is if some else hacked into your cpanel and changed it or your host did it for some strange reason

    best,
