Database for website - completely lost

Hey guys, I'm totally lost and don't know where to begin.

I've done some small web design before and am branching out to bigger things, however with size I'd like to include a search on the site, and not a Google run free search thing, but something like the big stores have which displays customised results in the format of the page, a la ebay, bestbuy, amazon etc. Now I believe that is driven with a database but I don't know where to begin and haven't found anything to really get me started in the right direction.

To be perfectly honest I don't even know if this is the right forum or if the Programming one would be.

    I know, I'm a n00b, what can I say?

    Thanks for your help.

Well to be honest it's more a case of not even knowing where to begin than an error, lol.

I have a website that sells products, I want the user to be able to search for the product and see a list of results that fit their search request.

Sock Monkey (if that is your real name ...haaa)

You will have to use a database and query to search for products by name, description, type or by price.

Absolutely it's my real name, my Mother has quite the sense of humour.

That link looks like it's a huge help from skimming through it quickly. Thank you!

You should always keep in mind that, Comuputer is dumb machine. The things you are saving on PC are actually not safe. So always have a back up File of your data in USB, hard drive or CD/DVD.
