Data centers boosting regional search results

Since the last update, google datacenters seem to favour regional results.

I've noticed on google.com.au and the local datacenters that our .au sites are ranking higher than on google.com or google.uk

I've also heard some comments this is the case for google.uk - that .uk sites are getting a bump over .com's

Anyone else noticed different data centers seem to show fairly different results after this latest update (in relationship with geographic centers)?

I'm pretty sure that's always been the case. Google even takes it a step further by geotargetting based on your IP address. For example, if you go to www.google.com and do a search, sites that are in Australia will rank a bit higher than they would if you were physically in another country.

I agree with DP, this has always been the case.

When you provide SEO tools, such as a position tracker this can be a pain. People sometimes insist the results are inaccurate, but what is actually happening is they are comparing from another side of the country, and are getting geo-targeted results (even when using google.com).

The tool on my site actually has a feature for using a proxy (such as one in your country of origin) to counter act this problem. But, at the moment the feature is *hidden*, I'm concerned people will A) manage to exploit the option somehow B) input illegal proxies, which they do not have the permission to use.
