Hi, I am looking to find out whether or not registering urls that have dashes are better or worst in getting keyword phrases indexed in Google. For example, I want to register used-bikes-ontario.com, obviously targeting the keyword phrase used bikes ontario. Is this a very good way to promote that keyword phrase or does usedbikesontario.com have a stronger weight on search engines. Am i wasting my time with those types of registrations. Dash = yes or Dash = no please advise.
dashes are good if you're looking to build niche/mfa sites for organic traffic(but not return, type-in visitors). On the other hand if you want to be in it for the long run and want to make a good, for humans type of website, you'd like to avoid using hyphens in the url. Either way, if you have a quality website it doesnt matter(too much).
thank you for your responses. I have a main site and instead of continuosly marketing specific keywords, I would like to capture those keyphrases using other means and then create a link to my larger website. Any other means of doing this that you would recommend?
well dashes are HUGE! If you use a dash in the domain name google will see each word as a seperate keyword. Here is Matt Cutts info on the subject. http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/dashes-vs-underscores/
