Dashes in Domain names

    Hi folks,

I have been doing plenty of reading on the subject of choosing a Domain name but can't really get a definitive answer (if there is one of course) with regard to using a dash in the name.

My thinking is to use a combination of two or three target keywords for the name and seperate them with the dash...www.first-second-third.tld

Would that be preferable, and easier to read/type, than one long string or is it better to keep to a single string? I'm assuming search engines will see the dash as a space

Thanks in advance for your advice

I'd buy the domain with and without the dashes. Set the domain without the dashes to redirect to the one with.
