Wake up this morning, get on the net. Check out a few things, read the emails, stuff like that. Then I go to my first directory site to log in. Could not log in. Went to my second directory, could not log in there. So I go to my cpanel to check everything out, find out, I lost all my databases to all my sites! And can not recreate or do anything! Anyways, put in very urgent request to host company to see what the problem could be. Have not heard back yet. But if the databases are lost forever, months of work down the old drain! Just a rant...cause I am po'd right now!
There is a good chance your hosting company has a recent backup. Most do weekly, if not daily backups, just in case of server errors.
Just happened to a whole bunch of my sites and lost it all... Hundreds of hours worth of work gone within seconds... Who is your host?
horrible news... I have had this happen to me before also... now I have such redundant backups cause I am so scared it could happen again
Host company is a bit slow on answering emails, but they do fix the problems as fast as humanly possible. Sure that they have backups, hopefully! I use Kwikhost which goes to: http://get-cheap-hosting.com/ I am a reseller of their services and it does suck when something like this happens! Probably, in light of the few past problems I have had, they will have it all fixed today sometime.
Yeah, backups...but those are lost also! Plus two of the sites were only about a week old, so no backups yet. Everything else is there, just the mysql has disappeared. Son's name is Shannon.
Been there. But in every bad situation something good can come out of it. Prepare for the worst and run backups on your own. At least if something happens you have something to revert back to. I even go as far as to take everysite and backup on a DVD. That includes blog programs, forums, etc.. I do this because I find that I may make changes to a blog specific to my site. This way nothing is lost.
My control panel allows us to do a zipped backup and download. When I did not have that option my guru wrote a bot to back up database daily. Hope you son likes name of Shannon as much as I do. Shannon
Minor problem, so they told me!, with the servers. Anyways, all sites are back running correctly. All databases are up and correct. I feel so darn much better! Days like this, when something goes wrong, does tend to irritate me. Son has no choice as he is 34 (almost). Always told him, be glad your mother picked the name, cause I always wanted a boy named Sue.
Most hosting companies do back up daily/weekly. I make back-ups of my directory database as well (daily). It might sounds funny but I actually store the backup on the same server! I trust my hosting company. The backup's actually protection from me ..... just in case I accidentally empty a table while working on it.
If you are going to store the backups on the same server, I would suggest using Cron to do it for you. That way, you don't have to worry about it again.
