Dare you Digg It?

I would like to get more traffic to one of my sites and was thinking of somehow using Digg to generate it, but has anyone had a problem when too much traffic from Digg overloads the server?

The site is only on a shared server so could it be a problem?

I don't know much about Digg so a few tips would be helpful

Iv been Dugg plenty of times including sites on shared hosting. Asmallorange (My host) did not seem to mind even when the server did go down. I'm sure the other webmasters were pissed off but ah well... This only happened once however. You should be alright unless you run a script that uses a lot of resources.

I have just been on Digg and I clicked on a link which had 323 Diggs and on visiting the website it had an account suspended message.

Did too much sudden traffic from Digg cause this? There's not much point in traffic if it shuts your site down.

Some people trim everything on their site down if they are expecting to hit the front page of Digg - make the page in question static, as low bandwidth as possible, etc.

If your sever can stand being dugg, it's well worth it.

Yes, Digg could bring your server down.
If you're on a shared hosting paying $5 / month ... being on Digg often could create problems with your hosting company.

You could run out of your monthly bandwidth quota which can take your site down. Make sure you don't have heavy files on the page, which might eat up all the bandwidth.
