I today just upgraded my domain name to my own .com instead of using blogger.com subdomain. I was using http://makerealfreemoney.blogspot.com (Started in April 08) It's now http://makerealfreemoney.com But it's meant obviously that I've lost my Google PR which was PR2 and my Alexa rating and all the associated backlinks! I take it I'm going to have to start all over again arn't I? I was ranking number 1 spots on Yahoo for make money online, make real money etc etc. Although checking, Yahoo still holds me number 1 position for make real free money. It's showing my domain still as it used to be. makerealfreemoney.blogspot.com. What will happen over time do you think?
Same thing happened with me. I hosted on free hosting then changed the domain name. I had to post and spread link to get back the PR. You need to do the same.
He won't loose traffic as anyone going to the old address will still see the same updated blog. So no loss in traffic but loss in PR. I keep stressing this many times. Once you have established blog you don't need PR. Just focus on content now.
Myth #1: PageRank doesn't matter anymore The REAL Truth: PageRank is how Google orders the web internally. It is what allows them to search 50 billion pages for millions of searchers every day and return results in just a quarter of a second. @ Mkcoy - best you include a link from http://makerealfreemoney.blogspot.com pointing to your new site re: http://makerealfreemoney.com * it will carry some link juice that Google will credit come this next major PR update * you new site gets referred traffic If you really want to take full advantage of the traffic your blogspot is getting, work around it as if it were a landing page to your new site... I would stop the redirection. If the backlinks to your blogspot are still there, then you should gain back its PR....then work on your new site if you like to gain PR.... you have approx 2 months to do that
That's the danger of hosting with free host. Anyway, I totally agree with sitemarker to create backlink with your old site. At least you could get some of the ole links. Sorry for the lost PR and Alexa, though.
Hi guys thanks for the advice. @ sitemarker how can i include a link from http://makerealfreemoney.blogspot.com pointing to my new domain at http://makerealfreemoney.com when I am still using blogger for the hosting and redirect is set up automatically. Going to http://makerealfreemoney.blogspot.com will automatically redirect to http://makerealfreemoney.com anyway. They are the same you see. I am still getting the same SE traffic I think. I haven't really noticed a drop in that yet. I'm just going to focus on adding content and got a few ideas about what to do anyway. See what happens in a couple of months eh.
That is the very reason why, on my popular money making blog, it was hosted by blogger and i didnt get a custom domain for it as i worked REALLY hard to get it to the PR it is at!
Don't worry . It will take sometime for search engines to recognizance your links .There is no problem with such upgrades since 301 redirects are used .I am sure that after few weeks you will regain your search positions and Alexa rankings .For PR it will take to the next update .
