A couple nights ago, our main page was vacillating between SERP position 1 and 2 for "nissan forum" and "nissan forums"... An AIM message pops up from a friend and fellow webmaster - "What happened to you guys?" Despite keeping a squeaky-clean image, arranging user-friendly linking, focusing on content, developing pure organic links and ensuring all our HTML is tight and easily navigable, we got the dreaded "Minus 30". Many of our pages have retained their high ranking in the SERPS, so it's not sitewide - Just our homepage. I've looked at our sitemaps, our code, our links - Nothing notable, and certainly nothing that screams "black hat". The worst part of the whole thing (whether it's done via automation or actual human review), is that there's no explanation. There's no email from Google, no "click here to inquire", no list of possible infractions (other than those we webmasters come up with). Nothing. Arbitrary, capricious, unfair. "Do no harm"? Bullcrap. Discuss....
Ha ha ha .. I've experienced the same issue ... I got one large website with wrestling news .. the homepage is nowhere to be found ... but the articles are still on top .. really weird .. I guess Google is changing the algorithms .. I guess ... Cheers, Venetsian.
I'm hoping so... I've scoured all the info I can find, and none of the "don'ts" applies to my site...
