As the Dallas mayor campaign, focusing on the mayoral elections to be conducted in May 2007, began gaining momentum as early as a year ago, there were not many who supported the mayor Laura Miller’s decision to contest in a re-election or encouraged her policies.

Back then; Laura Miller had seemed seriously wounded by a series of political setbacks, including the defeat of a proposal that would have given her more power. However, in helping broker a compromise on the Wright Amendment, some political analysts say Ms. Miller has transformed her image from a maverick bomb thrower to that of a thoughtful leader. Her work on the Wright Amendment agreement could ease doubts about her leadership and cement her as the overwhelming favorite against any candidate considering a challenge.

However, some Dallas leaders disagree that Ms. Miller has been fortified by the Wright amendment compromise she helped fashion over the past weeks. They are of the opinion that Laura Miller has a lot of negative record to overcome. Another reason that dims the possibility of another win for Miller is the multitude of candidates contesting this time. The stampede of candidates includes strong personalities like Darrell Jordan among others.
