I'm receiving around 50-60 new submission a day on my directory.(10 being spam) What is a good amount? Whats the most effective way of increasing it? ( other than forum sigs, and directory list submissions) Note: my directory is about 8 months old, PR1 thanks
There are free directories that get a couple hundred a day. Your ratio of spam seemed kind of low so I looked at your latest links page. Seems to me your getting more spam than you may think. Increase the submits by getting listed on directory lists like directory critic - directory rate which you know about - also announce it here in solicitations area.
Thanks, but how could you tell that my spam is high? I've been approving one by one, and really looking at their sites.
Normally you shall receive around 100 non spam submissions per day if your directory is listed on those popular directory lists. And you will receive around 200 spam submisssions per day if your directory is listed by those spam softwares.
Well I have a site with PR3 rank now I have started a directory section with this site. How to promote that hoping 2 get PR2 ranking for that in next 1 month
Ok, so if 10 are spam, is that about 40 to 50 then? Of those, are you actually reviewing each site and approving them? First off, do you have a captcha? That would cut down considerably on the spammy submissions. Also, is this paid or free? You could get more quality listings with paid than free. A good amount? How long is a piece of string? If you are getting 50-60 day, I'd say that is a pretty large amount. I'm gonna assume this is a free directory? Certainly telling people about it is a good way. Getting listed in directory lists or getting directory submission services to list with you would certainly help. 50-60 sites is a lot to review in one day as it is, especially if this is a free directory you have. Are you certain you can handle more site submissions? I'd concentrate more on quality than quantity. Get too many sites in too short a time you will then find the big G and others finding fault with your linking practices. Have a consistent and constant growth pattern along with quality listings, and you will fair much better IMO! YMMV.
yes i'm reviewing them, one by one. yes, i have captcha Not really, i can review a good amount in about 1 hour. Thanks for your feedback.
we receive hundreds of spam submission last month daily at one of my free directories, no doubt it's auto submission and damage my directories and server. you can change to paid directory for reducing the spam rate.
Numbers do matter but also the quality gives the highest benefit....Try to look for a site with a high PR..
Are you also re-reviewing the sites you approved about 6 months ago? Automatic 404 checks will catch some link rot, but you'll also need to do some manual checking. So before you encourage loads of submissions, bear in mind that the bigger your directory grows the more time it will take to manage.
I will go back to the original sites and re-review them. Also after submitting to directory critic - i did get alot of submissions, but like you guys said, alot of junk.
hey how can we differentiate between the directories and a banned directories by Google.I have to do this manually checking one-one dir.
Use an updated directory list. Check PR, google indexed pages and shared IPs under each listing. It will work fine as filter to find good directories where submit.
