Customs! :(

    Hey,

    i just bought an IPOD from ebay for aroung $134 from Florida to Canada, Ontario, Toronto would i have to pay any customs my brother bought something from the states but he got no customs on the other hand my friend always uses ebay and he said u will have to pay $150 customs is this possible????

    If you go through the immigration and custom counters at the checkpoints, they may not check every single package to determine if they are preowned by your brother or bought during his trip and thus may miss your brother's item or stayed within the CAD$50 to CAD$750 (depending on length of stay outside Canada) worth of items which is exempted from duties.

    However, anything sent through the postal service may not be treated as sending your own item but mostly a brand new item and thus may be subjected to customs.

    For postage program, check out http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/courier/postal-postale/ind-imp-eng.html . There are certain rules which you should take care of. But I doubt you need to pay $150 for a $134 item.

    Generally, it would probably be just the HST and PST as and where applicable.
