What is Homeoogle?

Homeoogle allows the user to select a personal Google page to set as their home/startup page. Homeoogle uses the Google Custom Search (AdSense for Search) to generate revenue which will be discussed in more detail below. If your still not clear on what it is take a look on the site and you’ll soon get the idea.

History

Homeoogle was originally named ‘MyOwnGoogle’ which was launched in October 2009. In January 2010 after a similar website came under legal pressure about their domain name being ‘similar’ to Google we came to the decision to change our domain name to Homeoogle, but all traffic was still being forwarded from MyOwnGoogle. Please note, this website has never had any legal issues what so ever, we simply changed the name for our piece of mind.

Why are you selling?

I have just finished university and I created Homeoogle to bring in some extra money through my final year of university. I also create, develop, promote, and run website to sell them, that is what i do, allowing the buyer to continue to run an established website and improve revenue. I am now on the verge of getting a full time job and I am selling the majority of my web projects.

I now need to get this sold asap, last month (June) I only spent about 1 hour a week max and revenue did suffer slightly but with little to no work still made a great return on the time spent.

What do I need to do to run the site?

During my time at university towards the end of the academic year I had very little time to run and update the website and I managed to find about half an hour a week max just to complete requests but it was enough to keep the website running.

Technically you would not have to do anything except keep it running and the revenue would probably stay the same although obviously the more you update the website, the more users you are likely to attract.

So I would advise a couple of hours a week (more or less if you wish) to:

- Complete Requests

- Upload new ‘themes’

That’s all really, not much. There are a number of opportunities would I develop if I was continuing to run the website which I will discuss briefly below and will talk to the new owner about in full.

What costs are involved?

This website would comfortably run on shared hosting due to the setup of the website. It uses a CDN (Central Developers Network) to host all the different images used on the website meaning they are stored in a computing cloud for redundancy and are not hosted on our server, this only costs around $2-3/month with around 0.5GB worth of images currently stored on there.

As mentioned the website would comfortably run on shared hosting due to the CDN doing most of the hard work, which can cost as little as $3/month.

Opportunities

There are a number of opportunities that you could do to make this website more profitable. For example we have never included advert anywhere throughout the website, revenue from the search has been sufficient for me, but obviously this could be manipulated to generate more revenue, for example, a paid advert on the search page, adverts of your choice on the main site (ie. BuySellAds.com). I’m sure this would increase revenue further.

There are a few more things that could be tried that I’m sure would increase revenue but these would be discussed with the buyer.

Summary

I am sure that with the right promotion and if enough time is put into this site I’m sure it will be even more profitable than it already is. There are a number of different ways to make more money which we haven’t manipulated yet, such as advertisements; this alone could double the revenue. I’m also sure more SEO could be done, and more promotion. I think this is an excellent opportunity for somebody to pick up an established website will lots of potential.

Revenue Details

As already discussed there a period of 4-5 months where I had little time to run the site, sometimes no time at all, and it did impact the revenue a bit although last month I was able to increase it again by putting some time into the site, time which I have no had much of this month unfortunately.

Revenue is around $450/month, this value has been converted from British Pounds (GBP), which is the currency I receive payments from Adsense. At the moment the British Pound is weak to the Dollar and therefore may not give quite a true reflection in a different currency as you will probably find if you ran it through an Adsense account that was in US Dollars then you may get more than this.

All revenue currently comes from Adsense for Search.

Traffic Details

We run an advert through adbrite (full details will be disclosed to new owner) which costs us no more than around $30/month, this is optional but brings in new potential users so we have continued that campaign.

Occasionally we will put a test advert on Google adwords alongside other ads we have on adwords, but it produces little traffic so isn’t really worth it, so we rarely do it, but I thought I would just mention that we did it (last month) so nobody gets confused if they see it on the traffic stats.

Other than the above mentioned traffic will come from Google etc.

You can find revenue for June below. As mentioned I haven't had time to maintain the site, hence the slight drop in revenue, although this revenue has be achieved by only putting in around 1 hour of work a week max with no promotional work and only adding around 5 'themes'. You will find the more work you put in the higher the revenue, so there is plenty of potential.

How long does it take to create new search pages?

Also would Gogole not frown on repeated clicks from the same users?

I am very interested but I am concerned tht this would run risks with my Google account.

 

Hello ThisIsOli,

The time it takes to create a new theme can vary, once you've got the image that you want to use it takes probably no longer than 1 minute per one once you get into the swing of it, I tend to do it in batches of 10+, which will usually take half an hour from beginning to end.

We have had no issues with Google reporting repeated clicks, and what do Google expect if they are running a custom search engine. I think each user will probably only click on 1 or 2 ads per day at most, so i don't think repeated clicks would be an issue, and as we said, we have had no issues with this and I doubt it would ever become an issue.

It is currently 1600x1200 although this is something the new owner could change. There is a workaround available here:
