There are two type of webmasters, some are now against directory submissions. But now google does not count directories as much as before, but they are still having value i think.

    Expecting responses from seo experts.

    thanks in advance.

You are right about webmasters taking either of the two side. I say directory submissions have lost a lot of value and Google went as far as removing a mention of 'directories' in one of their guidelines pages. But I repeatedly see good results from directory submissions so I am inclined to say that ROI is still pretty good.

More or less, directory submission does still have an impact on ranking and PageRank.

Just try to utilize and get benefit from big and reputable directories or the ones with huge traffic. Submitting to 1000s of directories isn't a good idea.

When there were only a few very large directories, their links were worth the earth to google. But now there are millions of dead directories offering free instant approval for each and every site. This decreases the value of dir links. Though links from big dirs like dmoz are still invaluable.

Directories will take time to get approved, and there are many dead directories so this may decrease value of directories. But all are getting positive results for directory submissions. There is a boom in number of websites, so we have to build more links to get placed anywhere in the first page of SE. So directory submissions still have a good role in SEO.

For me directory submission is useful till one point. You should submit website into 5-10 most valuable directories and not more... Because, you can use that time for more valuable work.

When I suggest directory submission? When I have some little client that have time to waste... I give him links and say "Go ahed and tell me when you are finished!" I have some bigger clients but also have smaller clients and friends with websites. I have not time to work for them so I give him directory and article submission guidelines and links and they do that.

So, directory submission is useful but if you do real SEO then there is no point to do mass submission to many worthless directories
