I have a .info site which is getting a fair amount (nothing major) of organic traffic. I purchased this site a month and a half ago, so I didn't really register the .com domain, but it is still available to purchase. I was just wondering if it would kill my rankings/organic traffic if I redirect my .info to the .com domain, since obviously the .com is more credible than the .info.
Buy the dot com and park it on top of your dot info. that way any traffic going to dot com will automatically bring up the dot info site.
It wouldn't hurt to register the .com domain and just direct it to your .info site since it's your main one.
yeah if you need it more brandable then you should but the dot com and redirect the .info to the .com
Google is fickle enough with their ranking system. Don't screw with the .info. You may think about installing a WP blog on the .com and using it for content with links to the .info. Then, build a series of Web 2.0 properties linking to both for "link juice". Squidoo Weebly Hubpages Zimbio Clearblogs Wetpaint etc.
just use 301 redirect from your .info to .com domain. Your ranking will be fine, as I've seen a few business when the change a website name and redirect old website to the new one.
You should have purcased .com domain instead of .info domain at first. But since you purchased it, you can purchase .com domain and make permanent redirect(301) from .info to .com, it won't affect your ranking.
Even if you do not register the Com version, your Info site could still be doing pretty well over the net. The top search engines ranks nowadays speak and the extension of domains might not be an issue over here.
