Can you imagine the poor developers right now? The coffee-drinking, sleep-deprived, 24-hour shift employees? I don't know what they're making, but it's not enough
my initial take is that the domain is poor, the results i get for some sample searches are irrelevant and they have a good p.r. firm.
good question because many may have difficulties in spelling it right when using it. last night CNN announced cuil - repeated times during the evening ( asia evening ) and also had later on a cuil-staff live on TV the way CNN pronounced cuil sounded like "cull" ( without "i" ) wonder why they selected such a rather weird name-spelling. the search results are good for domain-relevant keywords and terrible for all other keywords that bring me G traffic by the thousands each day. after all I think they had an excellent debut and it appeared that after the repeated CNN announcement last night cuil.com servers definitely had much more work than before. cuil staff on CNN said to have 3 times the expected traffic. after CNN they might have experienced another multiple search that might show up in a few days on alexa when july 28/29 is processed.
I find instances where same website has like 6 entries on 1st page. Still looks not that reliable, maybe it will improve
agreed. there's "brand-ability" and then there's just plain "confusion." maybe they plan a "domain switch" down the road a bit?? it's possible that CUIL is part of the "larger marketing strategy?" I.E. get the technology working right, get everyone talking about the cr*ppy domain name, then make headlines by moving to a GREAT DOMAIN? you never know with marketers.
Agreed. My own brief tests of Cuil did not impress me at all. What I saw was eye candy rather than substance, with the same 10-12 results repeated over the first 4 pages of SE results for the two terms I used. They are going to have to do a LOT better than this if they really want to be the (for some) long awaited "Google Killer". It's reportedly a Gaelic word and it's pronounced "Cool".
The very 1st spelling I heard was "cuill" (cool) on the 5am news launch day. Almost like Led Zeppelins Coolie. I think its unstable at this point. Was only able to do 1 or 2 searches before it would overload. See what happens over the next weeks or months.
Cuil needs time to to become wide known, and I'm sure that they're working on improving the search engine behind cuil.
Thje search result of cuil.com is pathetic. Google was my favorite, is my favorite and will be my favorite. NO one can take google's position.
Well, why would anyone "new" compete with Google? For now Google can only compete with itself, and the rest can follow. I tried few random "searches" using cuil.com and nothing leads to main page. It's shame. In my opinion this is just good marketing, they want us to talk about the site. It's just about time: "ads by Cuil"
Are you serious? Why would it be top engine, maybe in xx years? Don't forget on other search engines. aol.com msn.com ask.com Who the hell wants results with pictures appearing all over your screen. In my opinion it's just another media search engine.
Very poor results from my tests - some pretty straight forward searches return no results & others return the same page numerous time. The relevance of the pictures is hit and miss and seemingly random.
Will be interesting only if people are still talking about it after 2-3 weeks. Till then it is just a initial hype
