CTR higher when (1st page) rank is lower?

just a weird thing i see (at least in MSN because there is less traffic so it might be easier to witness), but I am seeing my CTR higher at #7 than I did at #1 and almost double #2.

I am just curious of how much traffic from position #1 is actually competitors viewing your site just to see how you rank so high - obviously not going to give you higher conversion. I know I've done it and I'm worthless to them in the sense of clicks :).

    anyone else ever see this?

yes i have heard of this but about adwords so it might be a similar theory.

The higher your rankings ex #1 on a highly searched term the higher the % of the daily traffic your site will get. However the higher ranking on a low searched term tends to get less traffic then lower ranked sites ie #6-9 with the except that after a certain point it all goes downhill. lol

    just my 2 cents.
