CSS fix to make site re-sizeable

What I want is that the site automatically resizes if the user has a different screen resolution.
I want the site to be centered and when the screen width is bigger than 1200px there should be white/grey box around the sides. It need to work in both ie + firefox.

Currently when the screen resolution changes the main content box drops under the left sidebar, and header images falls above the left sidebar.

hey bro..ive almost completed it...i wanted to know that you want the border only when screen resolution is more than 1200??

and another question...i dont think you hav a problem with having whole content in all screen resolutions...it'd look better

The border can be there on all screen resolutions but as the screen resolution gets bigger the border would get bigger with the site content remaining in the center.
