css doesn't work

I am learning dreamweaver 8 and I am working through some exersizes in a book and when I am in dreamweaver the css style sheets that I am attaching appear to work, but as soon as I check the page in IE or FireFox there is no styling at all. I can't see any problems when I look at the code. Does anyone have ideas on what I should be looking for. It doesn't make sense to me that it would appear to work in one place and then not work.

If you can post the code it would be a lot easier to help.

 

I'd guess that something weird's going on with the path to the css files - see what path it's using in the <link> tags and make sure it's correct.
