I've been working with a friend on a basic css layout. It's just a butchering of a template from oswd or something, and yes, I know none of the code will come up as valid. That's really the least of my concerns. Here it is: www.writing-online.com (ignore the links to other pages... they just lead to a free template and such I was using to test out the cms a while ago) We got it set up on CMSMS, and most of it's how we wanted it. But we're having some issues with the left and right columns, not extending to the bottom of the page. This was my first time really playing with css, so I have no idea how to fix it, or if it's possible. Is there a way to make them 100% height? If not, we can always just try to even out the ads and such, to keep text from wrapping below them, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Also, don't rip me about the ads please. There are a lot up, b/c we're playing with them to see how the new amazon ads might integrate or not. The adsense ads will be staying where they are (this is a sample article page, not a home page or anything), and the jobroll ads in the left will be staying (although I can trim the number of jobs showing), but the amazon ads might all go for the most part. So if anyone has feedback on whether any of those placements might work, I'd appreciate it. We'll be adding other things to the columns like a newsletter signup, so it won't be quite as heavily text-based... but you get the idea. One last question... I've been trying to find images of individual black keyboard keys, but haven't had any luck. Anyone know where I can find some free or inexpensive ones? I need to be able to spell out "online" with them, and I've tried taking my own, but couldn't get the lighting right. Thanks! Jenn
Let's hit this first. I'm guessing you're a writer. If you went to your editor and said, "I know the punctuation sucks and the grammar rules are generally ignored, but that's the least of my concerns. What about the structure of the article?" That's what you just said to us about your page. The syntax (grammar) of html is not nearly as complex as that of the English language. Why would you not write it properly from the beginning? Give your middle column a margin to either side equal to or greater than the width of the respective side column. That will stop the wrap under. cheers, gary
