My server host administrator (expert) tells me I can generate a CSR on any Apache server, modify it and submit for SSL certification (renewal). I am NOT a server guy ... so I'm clueless. I've searched and read, and read and searched but cannot find a place or way to generate the myserver.key files. It just make no sense to me that the myserver.key files can be generated anywhere but ON the server where my domain resides. Can someone point me in the right direction please. Thank you so much.
Which version of Apache are you running ? If you know that, you can use the tutorials here... http://www.rapidssl.com/ssl-certificate-support/generate-csr/index.htm I personally use GoDaddy TurboSSL and it walks you through the whole process. If you have CPanel, you can also do it from there and even generate self-signed certificates.
Thanks Bryce, I followed your lead ... already have an account with GoDaddy, so I got a goDaddy tech aide on the phone to help walk me through it. We got to generating the CSR but then were both stumped as to what to do. The site is hosted on a 3rd party Apache 2.x. i went through goDaddy's online tutorial too ... but it generates the *CSR offline* with no instructions as to how that was done. The goDaddy tech told me my host server admin guy must be, and can only be, the one to generate the CSR. Then, with that in hand I can get the SSL Certificate issued. Yet, the server admin guy says I can generate the CSR on any Apache server. Maybe I'm making this harder than it really is ... I don't know, I'm stumped. Thanks again
