    What is good in Zencart?

Is it easy to program for someone with not programming skills?

Also, are the standard templates and whatever comes out of the box good enough for a professional looking site or will I need to spend some time and skills to program this?

Zen Cart has a great community it is open source free

Generally you have to spend on the template to get a professional look on the website.

What is your reason for this claim..?

What in X-Cart is better then Zencart.?

Are the standard templates in X-cart good and professional to use out of the box or do you also have to buy to make it look good.?

The choice depends on what your looking to sell / what features you require.

salasei, I think you question is irrelevant to the choice of the cart. A cart should be able to handle doesn't matter what you selling.

A better question would how much you are selling not what I am selling?

zen cart has great support and addons, and yes, to answer your original question, it is very easy for a noob programmer to figure out. Implementing the add-ons are straight forward as well. You won't find as extensive of a database of addons as there is of something like osCommerce for example, but still, very good support and features.

ok birdman, that's good feedback. I am about to install and have a play with zencart.

Any idea where I could get free template? and modules for aussie related shipping & gateway(australia post & eWay)?

see that's thing. Zen cart sucks for nice "Free Templates". All the koodos to the community for putting an effort into some really awesome templates, but you have to hunt around for a decent one. Since you're just starting to play around with it, my suggestion is to start with a basic one anyway. Get a feel for it. As for shipping gateway, take a look at this:
    http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&cPath=40_51&products_id=471

I've worked with Zen Cart, X-Cart, osCommerce, Open Cart, Magento for many many years so i know my way around their source codes. Any questions, shoot away!

    cubecart FTW

it is so easy to use cubecart if you know CSS

I also think that although zen-cart is easier to edit cubecart has the best admin CP

X-Cart is working on PA-DSS certification - something that will be required soon.

ZenCart is one of the best shopping carts available today. It is easy to customize and easy to work with.
