Today I'm putting up for auction a domain name I intended on developing but never got the chance to do so.

Crysis2.net is a domain name I registered in 2007 when the original FPS Crysis came out. Crysis was extremely popular and received 9.4/10 at IGN.com and has been chosen as the editors choice. Crysis 2 is one of the most anticipated games of this year on the PC, which can also be seen on the Upcoming Games section (you'll need to click on "PC").

The sequel, Crysis 2, is coming out on the 30th Dec '10. It is recently gaining search volume due to the announcement of the release date. You can view the search volume trends here.

So basically this is a great domain if you want to develop a website for this very popular game. I know some of you specialise in creating fan sites for games (I've bought one in the past for an MMORPG here on DP), so this is a great opportunity for you guys out there.

The domain is registered at GoDaddy and so I will transfer the ownership to your GoDaddy account upon receiving payment through PayPal. I also renewed the domain today (7th June '10) so you won't have to renew the domain for a year.

Dosn't this domain name infringe trademarks?

 

No, it shouldn't. As long as you have 'unofficial Crysis 2 fansite' or something in the footer where it says 'Not affiliated (with the original creators),' then there shouldn't be a problem. Besides, a fansite would only help promote their game, so the developers really couldn't care less.

 

As GaGay has already said, in most cases the game developers do not mind domains like this as it helps them promote the game. I have had a fansite in the past which had the domain name MONATOESPRIT.ORG, which is the name of the game. The site ranked #1 in Google.com, above the official game site too . Although I've closed it down now, the developers of this game embraced the site and even gave us a link on their website.

More specifically, Crytek (the developers) definitely don't seem to mind considering the domains CRYSIS.COM/NET/ORG are all taken and yet owned by different owners.
