Indian laws are actually biased towards women. in some cases men have been convicted for rape based on just statements of the "victims" and little circumstantial evidence. courts are even known to declared certain cases of consensual sex as rape. luckily for the guy, the Supreme Court overturned the decision. http://www.expressindia.com/news/fullstory.php?newsid=91527 and if the woman is from the so called "lower caste", the laws are so draconian that a mere complaint is enough to get the man arrested and sent to jail. even if there is no evidence available, the man doesn't even have a right to bail till the court decides on the matter.
why there is a caste system in your country mate, as you mentioned lower and higher caste system. i read about your caste system but not able to understand it can you explain a bit? God made all human and they should be equal.
woha... i m an indian n i really did'nt knew about this fact,,, either its not true or it has been changed now...
the origin of caste system was in the concept of division of work. certain groups of people were good at doing certain types of work. however, it turned into a water-tight system that was discriminatory in nature and thus failed. nowadays, in urban India, most people don't care about the caste system. like all over the world, money now defines the status of a person. a poor brahmin gets less respect than a rich person from a "lower caste". inter-caste marriages are common nowadays as people prefer to choose their own partners. in rural India, especially in states like UP, Bihar, Haryana etc, caste system still exists. however, it is weakening at a rapid pace and 100-200 years down the line, no one will care about it.
True. I agree. But then you can't help it.Most cases would be real and only a small percent of the cases would be like what you mentioned. Caste system in India is like Racism. Just a comparison to make you make familiar and comfortable. As sachin said, it was based on work and is now losing its importance rapidly in urban India.Sadly, the rate is not that great in rural India but still is getting better and it will be obsolete in 4-5 decades max. Thanks to inter caste and inter religion marriages. @topic. It is true and as sachin said the reason is because of the population that it looks magnified.
I'm gonna assume that if we had four to five times the population we have now, on 1/2 the land mass, we'd probably have some significantly higher issues too.
What exactly is with people using the word "mate" so often in this thread? I'm an Aussie and even I don't use it that much XD
Just looking at the movies, I think there are more badasses in the West than in India... I've never been to a western country, so I don't really now how safe or unsafe they might actually be as compared to India... Every community has its own bad apples... India is no different...
they say USA is a land of opportunities i agree it is but what opportunities exactly??? y u have to compare crime etc rates of india (dont worry, am not an indian)
Simple my friend. You have a unique plan or idea in US, you have a chance to make it big(not any plan ). I can't say the same thing for India and most countries. Also India is not up to compare with anything with US, UK, CA, FR yet, maybe in the next 50-100 years cause nothing is really stable on that country.
There are thousands of stories of migrants going to the US with a few dollars in their pockets, and with sheer hard work and some luck, they today are millionaires. Its not easy, but the chances of making it big are really huge... USA is indeed a land of opportunity... It is not perfect... but is a vibrant free market. You'll read many people who claim how their rights are being violated coz of Obama and the police state... but these people have never seen what an actual police state in a 3rd world country looks like... People in USA are really free... In India, the police is too strong & brutal... they oppress the poor and the weak. That is what has led to the rise of the Maoist militancy in 7 Indian states... Democracy attracts power-hungry rascals in the mafia who do anything to get to power... The Judiciary is extremely corrupt with thousands of court cases having a back-log of 20 years. People have few rights anyways...
i second sachin410 Population of india is 1,139,964,932 US: 304,059,724 UK: 61,399,118 If you do basic math, you can find that the % of such crime is not so big..
when you look at these reports you should also look at the population ratio, not defending the conditions in india but now a days these things have become common
