Cross-domain tracking advantages and disadvantages

I am thinking of setting up cross-domain tracking for my websites. I have a main site targeting a specific market, and from there I have links to sites that target different niches within that market.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using the cross-domain tracking feature of Google Analytics? Should I implement it or use separate tracking for the separate sites?

    Thanks

The way I handle it is to use 2 separate tracking codes to track all my 41 web-sites. 1 for the site itself and 1 for all domains. With the Analytics asynchronous tracking technology, there won't be loading penalty and you can get all the stats you want

Thanks for the advice. Now if I'm adding the 'all sites' profile, does it matter what domain name I use there?

Most likely not. I used one of the random domain from my web-sites to start my account
