Crohn's Disease - Any Information?

    Hello all,

I just found out that my little nephew - the sweetest kid of my memory, now a good, grown man, is suffering under the extraordinary weight of advanced Crohn's disease. I knew he has had it for years, but this latest news is deeply saddening. He cannot stand due to loss of blood, is in constant agony with the ulcers throughout his digestive system and it is reaching a critical mass. Remicade treatments are not working, he isn't eating, and is sleeping most of the time. He has not been to work for some time.

I would ask anyone from the community with knowledge of this condition to please post it here. I am sure my brother and his family are doing all that they can, and my nephew is in the best medical care possible. I am also combing the web for information, but I fear what I find will already be well known. I open this to this community in the hope someone may have something newly useful that I can pass on.

    In appreciation,

    Paul

I am really sorry to hear about your nephew, Crohn's disease is a nasty condition.

You can download a copy of my free eBook 'Beating 'that bloated feeling' naturally' and send it to him from this link http://www.newbeingnutrition.com/books.htm

The eBook is generally about digestive health, not just Crohn's but there is a chapter on Crohn's and Colitis which he may find interesting.

    All the best

    *tmi warning.*

    Since this got *bumped*....

From January to June in 1996, I lost 60 pounds because of Crohn's Disease!!! January I started having pain. Then in May, after six months of pain, I finally had my Dr. check-up. I started having blood-tests to try to find out what it is. No luck. Next an Ultra Sound. No luck. Then the CT scan *They give you yummy stuff to drink.*

Then every one but me PANICS!!! Appendix is ready to burst!!!!! A week later, in June, I had surgery to have it removed, AND because of the Crohn's Disease down there, I also lost some small intestine and Colen so I had to live at the hospital and be on a feeding tube for a week while we waited for me to ahem.. fart and ahem, poop. :D As for da pain, I was on da heroin for only a few days.

I also had massive farting for a few months, luckly I LOVE having. Farts are great, especially when you're around people. There even better when you get to fart in some ones face!!! :D

Since surgery, I've been on drugs (Asacol for a few months until having X-rays, and then Pentasa, for life.) to keep it from messing up again. Since surgery, I've had no pain, no weight loss, and if I get the diaria, it's just 1-3 trips to da toilet, and it's gone.

Oh, if you ever have a colonoscopy...it's not fun at all!!! The night before is way worse than having a camera stuck up your tush and around da corner, and around da corner again!!! You're taking dumps about every 10 minutes all night long, and by morning, you fill like a hot chick. It's 100% water that comes out of da back!!! Ladies, I fill your pain!!! No wounder toilet paper roles don't last very long when ladies use it!!! :D

This is great advice, i'm glad there are like-minded folks around here.

to Northpoint, sorry to hear this, Crohn's is serious stuff, they suspected I had this and first diagnosed me with ulcerative colitis, similar disorder.

My recommendation would be to first examine the diet, advise him to get off of any dairy and meat products. Some say crohn's is the result of Candidiasis, or yeast infection and that thrives in an acidic environment. I would look into an alkalizing diet, and what I recommend to everyone for good health, is a raw food diet. I assure you this will at the very least, help.

Sunlight is also important, tell him to get as much as he is able to. This keeps the fungus (Candida) in control.

Are you currently aware of what his diet is like?

Edit: Oh, this is 2 years after the fact.. lol
