Critique site/layout/placement for an old blog

I've had this blog for a little over a year now and I rarely update it. However, because of some decent back links I continue to get traffic on a regular basis - not a lot of traffic, but its a start.

I'm trying to update the blog as best I can before school starts up again so I can be ready for the influx of traffic I'm hoping to get. If any of you guys would be willing to critique the layout/design/ad placement/etc I would really appreciate it! Tear it apart if you want, I'm not a huge fan of the layout anyway.

The design and layout is good but your post is very long. It does not look good if there is a blank space on the right side of your blog.

Hope I can help you a little bit
    - you better match up your ad unit to the theme you use. Here you use different background colour. Try to make it the same. So it will blend very well with your theme.
    - you only use 1 adsense unit, 468x60. Is that correct? Try to maximize by using 3 ad units + 3 ad links
    - always nice to have ad link at your navigation place (header) and at the closing of your article. So your reader will find something to click.
    - from my experience, for ad units, 336x280 always performs better compare to the other. Try to make it blend within your article either at top right or top left.
