I am not a programmer, so remember that in responding. Could I get some feedback on one of my sites? I am barely breaking even on PPC costs, so I need to figure out how: (1) to get FREE traffic; and (2) convert the traffic that I do get. TheScoobyStore
This is a niche store, so much color..., don use all this bold on the fonts, put adsense links on the header... and loose all your money on this, i have lots of bans sites, u have to give time. With search engines u gonna loose money. How much time do u need to make this? If u wanna try other way link http://www.simplifiedsec.com/?r=631
Ok the design really isnt all the good. The colours are horrible to be honest, as is the font. Id get rid of that bottom left ebay skyscraper. Its just stretching the page out. Build up backlinks and you should start to get some search engine traffic. There is a lot of content there so you should be getting some search engine traffic id assume.
Each one of the colors is the color associated with one of the characters, I thought I was being clever.
Yeah I can see where you were trying to go. That's cool for a fan site, since people will be there for a different purpose. You want BUYERS, and buyers won't spend time trying to find things. They won't really care that you were going with themed colors. They'll just look and see that what they want isn't easy to find and hit the back button. Niche stores are a different animal. Sure, you want to stand out. You want people to wait for the page to load and to look around. And for people do to that you need an attractive layout. But the layout shouldn't detract from the product. It should funnel the eye to what you're trying to sell. My store layouts usually have BIG text in the header to grab someone's eye. Then the colors of the site should invoke a professional air (think of going to a store you've never been to. Bright contrasting colors typically signify amateurs. You don't want that). Finally the ads are kept to a minimum. Remember you want people to click on your ebay links and not your adsense stuff. Don't provide too much distraction or you'll bleed customers to a .10 click vs a $20 sale. Your niche is interesting but I think you have way too much text on the home page. I like putting listings right there in their face on the first page. Again you want them there to shop, not to read articles. Your text is there to get your site well placed in the search results, it's not really for the visitors.
try a white background (#ffffff) its ok for first site. The reason you are breaking even and not profiting is because ur site design is not efficient (and that GREEN just makes u want to commit suicide) Anywho, just change it to white and maybe u'll see more conversions. Good luck
I'd have to agree that the colors are sketchy. The whole website looks really busy, the bright green background is the first thing to change.
few comment that I can make. - try to standardise the font. - dont bold all your text, only where necessary. - font color selection need to be improved. need to be in the same grouping. - I strongly believe you should remove the adsense.
OK, its not the prettiest site on the web, but I can tell you that its a great niche. Its fantastic that you pulled so much together in the niche. As everyone said, a redesign might be in order, but I will try to answer your other 2 questions: (1) to get FREE traffic; To get free traffic just do some of these things: * Create a squidoo page about scooby and link to your page * Go to socialmarker . com and bookmark your site and the squidoo lens * go over to http :// www . tv.com/show/8341/forums.html and post a couple of links (not spammy!) * go over to http :// answers. yahoo. com and search for questions you can answer about scooby (yes, there really are questions about scooby doo... over 1400 in fact!) ... put a link to your site ... again, don't be spammy! * myspace has a couple of fan clubs, you might check them out and make some scooby friends * there is a webring out there.... http :// g.webring . com/hub?ring=scoobring (2) convert the traffic that I do get. You probably just need more traffic... and maybe a little better design try to calm the page down a little... if you take some of the above traffic getting steps, you should see pretty targeted people coming to the site and hopefully a little more conversion. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!
Hi, It looks nice and bright Maybe too many text links in blue on the home page? Your target audience to start off with might be kids...(before the tell mom) so I would place lots of graphics on the home page. Good luck, Debra
The first thing I noticed was how long the menu is, I just wanted to hit the big X instead of searching through all the links. Try using the menu system in the "closed" state and let people navigate to the sub-menu. Also I think there is too much info on the front page, I didn't know where to look. Get rid of the green, it's way too bright.
Ditto to what the others have said, but I would also like to point out that the "copyright" statement at the bottom of the page is horrific and needs to be removed or replaced with real information. It just screams out that this page was built by someone who doesn't care about the subject and its copyrighted work. It took me 2 seconds to type "scooby doo, copyright" into Google to find out that Hanna Barbera / Warner Bros. Television own the rights to Scooby Doo.
I have to agree with everyone else change the colors at least the neon green. People won't stay long if it hurts there eyes.
Brent S, I like the idea behind your site. Even though it's a very targeted niche, everyone's had a history with Scooby, so everyone can relate to your site. This gives the idea potential. Just change the colours to a milder, more friendly, scheme, so visitors don't have to wear sunglasses. And get rid of all the bold font. Don't delete it, just change it to normal.
I like the niche you've chosen, you just need to execute better with a cleaner design and more friendly approach. Best of luck!
