C Ronaldo is overrated. Performed very well at club level but quite disastrous at international level. He still has a lot to prove at international level for Portugal.
Also usually in a year with either Euro or World Cup. the FIFA player award traditionally goes to member of the Euro champion or WC champion so it is unconventional that Torres did not win.

Messi probably has more talent in his finger than Ronaldo in his whole body. Ronaldo has peaked and this is best he can show while Messi has probably only reach 50% of his true potential
Messi is really phenomenal and should easily win the FIFA award in 2009 and for many years more. This considering that Messi has not hit his full potential yet. Messi will be a fitting successor to Maradona for sure

 

I don't think he'll win it again this year though. I think if Barca can win double then Lionel Messi will get it this year.

 

I second that, as a Manchester United fan I am not yet satisfied with his performance in this season and I guess may be he is now looking for money and I wouldn't surprise if I see him in Real Madrid in next season. I always be happy to see Messi's run towards to Box and I think one day he will be a bigger then Maradona.

Fully deserved. Was sensational throughout last year, only criticism would be him under performing in Euro 2008. 42 goals in one season from an attacking winger is amazing and a once in a life time feat. Congratulations, even though I think you're a tad overrated and arrogant!

Well this award was based on 2008 performance and all of us know what he did last season. I agree this season he is just ordinary player but last season he was on top of the form.

 

Cristiano Ronaldo deserves it .
