saw this documentary on PBS. Some place, I think New Guinea, where they chopped off some missionary's head 100 years before (AND WERE LEFT ALONE THEREAFTER, UNTIL...)

On this latest round of missionary fervor, the new gang discovered something wild.

Once a year there is a giant festival, all the towns from all over the island congregate in one place for games and a giant feast (which used to be the missionaries et. al.)...

Took some time for these new missionaries to figure out what it was they were playing, but finally they got it - crickett.

There were as many as a hundred on each side. Everyone in their brightest, most menacing native dress, as might the custom of the island invite. Plumes and war paint, whoops war cries. They took part of all manner of chaotic, competing ceremonial drums and dances.

This, their own version of crickett which they had learned one hundred years earlier by some guy long since headless, had progressed into their own magnificent, outrageous, spectacular, hysterical and wild indigenous version unencumbered by any vestige of they who had first introduced them to the sport.

It was their own version now. And if you ask me - a more interesting version.

Incidentally, nobody ever lost a game. This is part of their version too. Because it is a day of great fun and partying for all - so, the rule is no one ever loses. Though how exactly they implement this, I do not know.

Soccer and cricket are the most boring sports in the universe....Maybe just for me because I'm not really a sports fan anyway :D

In my opinion, American football is more interesting than those two..
