I'm in NZ and we're being subjected to the Cricket World Cup and I was stunned to discover that sports betting companies accept bets during and after a game. Have these people never heard of twitter, facebook and live streaming? Obviously if the guys watching the game were transmitting results for the purpose of cheating then it needs to be stopped but the logical way to do that is to not take bets after the game starts playing, isn't it? On the other hand, what a great gig, get flown to NZ, hang out between games. The only shitty bit would be having to watch the cricket
LOL yeah live in-play betting is big business. Don't feel too sorry for the bookies, they're making a lot of money. The same thing happened at the Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne last year when officials noticed suspicious behaviour although he got off the charge.
"In play" I can understand but relying on delayed broadcast and continuing to accept bets on something that has already happened is just asking for trouble.
Of course they don't take bets on what has already happened that would be guaranteed to lose money lol. As its name implies, punters get to bet during the game. The more money wagered, the more money the bookmaker makes.
Yes, of course they don't take bets on what has already happened that would be guaranteed to lose money!
Umm no they're not. This article should give you some insight into what courtsiding is all about. Think about it logically, why would a bookmaker accept wagers on outcomes that were already decided.
http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/AK1502/S00304/police-alert-to-betting-cheats.htm If they aren't accepting bets on things that have already happening then what other advantage could be taken from those broadcasting time delays? The lag in "live tv" is about 7 seconds - too quick for any action so it must be talking about delays of hours.
