Credit for Remote Image Links?

I was just looking through the logs on one of my sites and I kept seeing some forum link fly by. Turns out some joker is using an image from one of my sites in his sig on a forum. But, before I renamed the real picture and put a picture of some guy muching on dog sh|t in where the orig one was, I got to thinking. I was wondering if maybe people remote linking to that image gets some kind of cred in the SE's. Anyone ever tested anything like this?

I highly doubt you get anything other than bandwidth consumption. Show the dog sh|t!

images do count as a backlink. they do eat bandwidth, but spiders will also follow them back to your site from the img tag.

heh, well I don't pay for bandwidth and it is a really small gif, so I am going to hold off for a little bit. Might be an interesting test though. :)

90-100 words a minute is good for lots of things :p

You really don't need to test it though. I had a site (copper something or other) that took my logo and put it on their site (i still hosted the image) and there was no <a> tag around it. Simply my image on their site. I saw the site appear in my google backlinks a month or so later after the next update. So I know it counts as a backlink (or did - but I'm sure that didn't change).

Edit again: Man I love this in line editor, instead of going to a new screen. This is sooo sweet!

Then, if you use as an avatar, an image remotely hosted on a banned server, will this have a negative impact on the forum you will post to?
