Credit Card Question

    Hi,

    Anyone know what is the difference between Card Verification Number and Pin Number (is there any called with this name)? Are both same or different?

    I know CVN is 3 digit. Anyone know how many digits pin number have?

    Can anyone get/ pull or pay money if they have CVN?

    Is it safe to pay online via Credit card? I mean if I pay via online can anyone see those info? If they see those info can they take money from my credit card?

    Personal identification number (PIN) - is a secret numeric password shared between a user and a system that can be used to authenticate the user to the system.When a purchase is made, the credit card user agrees to pay the card issuer. The cardholder indicates his/her consent to pay, by signing a receipt with a record of the card details and indicating the amount to be paid or by entering a Personal identification number (PIN).

    The Card Verification Number(CVN)/Code anti-fraud system was created so that if someone gets possession of your credit card numbers they also need to have possession of your physical card in order to use the card. American Express calls it the CID (Card Identification Number). For MasterCard, it is the CVC2 (Card Validation Code). Visa calls this number the CVV2 (Card Verification Value).

    PIN digit vary between 4 and 8 digits length.





    Credit card security relies on the physical security of the plastic card as well as the privacy of the credit card number. Therefore, whenever a person other than the card owner has access to the card or its number, security is potentially compromised. Merchants often accept credit card numbers without additional verification for mail order purchases. They however record the delivery address as a security measure to minimise fraudulent purchases.

    The only thing you need to worry about is if the merchant stores your credit card number. If they don't you should be fine.
    Processor's like Paypal, etc are governed by PCI the payment card industry and have to have regular audits to ensure their data is safe.
