Creative thinking = Good KEI?

Hi everyone, i'm pretty new to seo and it's been a really frustrating few months trying to get traffic to my websites: elinegames.com and fightyourbullies.com.

My question is, if i were to think creatively and come up with descriptive keywords with less competition, will it result in my websites getting ranked higher or will it be the same since not many people would search that term and the big websites have already covered the casic terms?

I didn't have as much knowledge when I first launched my websites (although i still don't have much knowledge right now either) so apparently i've picked two of the hardest niche's to compete in. There are so many games website that i'd probably retire from old age by the time i finish counting them and .edu and .org sites have way too many backlinks/articles for me to compete with them in the search engines. Am I in a hopeless situation and is there another healthy source of traffic that is "free"? (don't say directories because i've read others saying they don't produce barely any traffic and i have witnessed it myself with my games website)

    2 questions:

    a) How many people currently find your site and click on it when they search for a 'classic'/popular keyword?

    b) How many people do you estimate/calculate will be able to find your site and click on it if you target a niche topic with little competition?

    If a > b then do a.
    If b > a then do b.

And in both cases improve your content - give users something of value - a reason to go to your site.. :)

I can't answer your questions since i'm not getting any traffic from the search engines, the only traffic i'm getting (temporarily) are coming from forums like DP.

    Hi vahsi000,

What you said in your post is very true.. targeting a non-competitive keyword is easy but it wouldn't yield you any traffic and targeting a hot keyword like 'Game' is very difficult..

What you need to do now is to refine your Keywords again to fit in a certain niche that you are interested (go for more defined words like 'free gaming news' etc). A good keyword for a new site is one that:

    1. Recieve searches according to the Overture Tool.

    2. Has a low keyword difficulty % (just for reference)

    3. Not many results indexed by Google (you can check this by keying into the search box)
