creative commons credit ruins the design

I want to create low cost website with creative commons attribution license images. I dont want to put the credits on the images or under because it make a great picture and web design look like crap.

Is there a way around this besides the obvious which is paying for images.
Can I put the credit in the alt tag and image name and description?

Any Ideas?
