I run a designer clothing website and i constantly get new links everyday like any other business I've found around 8 websites that are small directorys and in the designer clothing section have my biggest competitor only. There is no contact details to add your on website Could it be that my biggest competitor created small directories and then optimized the site to create a high quality link ?? Is it worth doing it ??
No. The search engine companies do look at the registration data for a web site and if multiple web sites are created by one entity for the purposes of directing traffic to another one of their own web sites, they will (eventually) be penalized. Take a look at the whois data of these websites and see if you can support your hypothesis. If your competitor is in fact doing this, report them.
How is a small directory with only his entry going to provide a high quality link? I wouldn't have thought it would be worth the time. If it's relevance that's bringing his site up then he would be better off spending the time improving his own site.
Its a possibility but if those websites happens to be on the same class C ip address than the backlinks will be weighted much lower than they would actually have
Would it not be effective to have several websites with a PR of 2 and perfect On page SEO linking to your own site? Couldn't it be registered on a free webpage creator like tripod?
This is really a wrong answer, do you know how many whois proxy services are out there? Did you know that most smart webmasters use proxy whois services to prevent spam or identify theft? If you assumption was the case then all my sites would be in jeporday since I use the same whois proxy. They used other methods beyond registrar data, since it can be altered anyways and the CANN policy on correct data is never enforced.
check the ICANN companies that are accredited as a com/net registrars. Those have full WHOIS access with real contact info, not the proxy address/shielding addresses. Do some home work
Wrong, only the registrar know the true identity behind the domain name because they have the billing information, thats why ICANN has the policy requiring you to use correct and valid information in your whois data. Like I said in a prior post, completely useless.
