what makes this icon web 2.0? as far as I understood web 2.0 is a usability concept that differentiates between the former web where users each had their own pages, into a new concept where users could more directly and dynamically interact with one another using things like comments or profiles, blogs.

I was unaware that a bitmapped image could allow users to interact collaboratively. Please explain this to me.

Yes, as far I know these icons can be used to give that extra zing to a page which either looks flat/boring. Web 2.0 doesnt usually mean just simplicity, its used to refer to stuff that has replaced the old boring flat icons and other designs in order to blend them with the younger generation..they find shiny and 3d stuff more appealing than just simple colored boxes.

shiny icons....oh, you mean like copying the whole apple plastic thing they started in 2001? yeah, tons of 'kids' remember that from growing up.

Come on, if you want to be up-to-date you must surely know that Web 3.0 is the current trend.

Why not offer web 3.0 icons?

I believe there's no such REAL thing as Web 2.0 or Web 3.0 and it will never be.
