    Hello,

I want to make video from power point presentation.
I have the power point document, but I can't import them in movie maker.
    How can I do this?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello Garter,

I do not know if there is a way to do what you are trying to do without using another piece of software.

I cannot say that I have ever used movie maker...but I suspect it is pretty much a plain-old video editing program. The issue is that you need to capture video of your powerpoint presentation, and I do not know that movie maker can do this.

A product like Camtasia Studio (costs some $$$) is capable of doing such a thing. In fact, Camtasia can directly convert a powerpoint presentation into flash video...and most likely into an AVI file if you want (though flash is better for the web).

I own Camtasia Studio, but I do not own a recent copy of Microsoft Office (I did not want to pay for an upgrade with features that I would not use). Since Camtasia Studio only works with PowerPoint 2000 or later, I cannot use the "direct from powerpoint to Camtasia" feature. However, I have found that I can make just as good of a video presentation by simply using Camtasia to record my "screencast" while using powerpoint.

Now, what does this mean to you?

You have a couple of options here.

    1) You can acquire Camtasia Studio (about $299). You may not be interested in an almost $300 solution...but if you are, it works great.

    2) There is an OLD version of Camtasia Studio...in fact, Camtasia Studio was "open sourced" before it became what it is today. I have no idea if it will work on your O/S, but you can give it a try. You can try it at http://camstudio.org.

    3) Finally, if you are willing to spend a little bit of money (like $49) you can get Snag-It...from the same makers of Camtasia Studio (You can find them here at www.techsmith.com). SnagIt is capable of making a "screen recording" of your powerpoint presentation, just like Camtasia Studio, but lacks the editing capabilities along with some effects, etc.

The best part about options 1 and 3 is that you can download a free trial of the software. If you are really bent on doing this "on the cheap" then you can certainly try the camstudio open source product first.

The video that you get out from the captures, no matter which product you choose, should be able to be loaded into Windows Movie Maker. You may need to load the Camtasia video codec, which is available free from the folks that make Camtasia Studio.

    Hope this helps.
