Hi, i am doing a mobile phone downloads site. But i dont know if i can put the file url of the original site or i need to host in my server, anyone can help me?
What are the contents anyways ? Do you have permission from the copyright owner to host the contents on your site ? If it is a download repository with the original site owner placing the listing on your site then it is okay.
not, i dont have yet, i need to contact him? please see this site: http://superdownloads.uol.com.br or http://superdownloads.uol.com.br/redir.cfm?softid=3739 it just put the original file link so the file is not hosted by superdownloads is it legal?
The site looks like a software repository site from the looks of it, although I don't understand Portuguese. Like most shareware repositories, they would invite shareware and other software authors to submit their entries to the site. In this case, the software authors gives explicit permission to be listed and offers downloads direct from the software authors site. Such a site usually have authors do the submission. However, there are several shareware payment processors such as Regnow, ShareIt!, Regsoft which offers affiliate programs, you can sign up for such programs and get the authors consent to host the entries in the hope of earning a cut from sale. However to rip the listing from superdownloads.uol.com.br would not be an appropriate thing to do. You could however get the PAD (XML) entries of the submitted programs from http://www.aspshareware.org/pad/padlib.asp . This is where software authors submit their entries explicitly for shareware repository to get the entries. In the cases above, the downloads would come from the shareware author site. The benefit for you is that you do not need to incur the bandwidth, the benefit for the author is that they can check for download stats and also offer the updated version of the software. You need however need to acknowledge that you do not own those software or offer any registration key or warez copies but just acting as a repository site. I am sure like most authors, I can say with certainty that we will definitely welcome the additional exposure.
