Two basic questions when creating an ebook.

    1) Do you recommend a specific software or just PDF's? Both seem to have advantages and disadvantages.

    2) What is the best approach to promoting an ebook?

There are specific software for creating an ebook, the problem is that most of such software compile the book into EXE format and the drawback is that people may not download it to avoid virus risk.

I agree with "your content". People get turned off by the .exe format. The advantage of it though is you can compile a whole website using a simple exe program. The website is your ebook. You can img src in banners and ads.

As for promotions, clickbank.com is good. They have a huge base of affiliates. Another common way to promote ebooks is through sales pages and newsletters.

I think yes, some people may be turned off, however, the distribution options are far greater with a .zip or .exe as with that, you can distribute through software download sites.

I suggest you only use pdf, you can get a free version from openoffice.org which keeps your links live.
Promote through clickbank and paydotcom. There are many ways to promote. If you need more info pm me.

Personally I no longer download ebooks that are in .exe format as I've made the mistake once of opening one that did contain viruses.

Also, I'm not a 100% sure but I don't think .exe ebooks are readable on a Macintosh machine.

They're not. Unless you run a virtual Windows deskop on the Mac, which kinda kills the point of having a Mac. :)

Make the eBook in pdf format. Like John said above, you can download open office to write and convert the book to pdf...it's free.

Then, set up a clickbank account ($50) and get to promoting it!

    1. Write keyword rich articles and submit them to ezinearticles.com and goarticles.com.
    2. Drive traffic to the site using PPC's (adwords).
    3. Constantly find linking partners and build your network of incoming links (for example, find blogs that are similar in content and post comments with your link!)
    4. Promote your clickbank affiliate program and recruit an army of affiliates.

That should be enough to get you started...best of luck.
