Creating our own web search engine?

    I was just wondering if its possible for a standard user to create his/her own web search engine similar to google/yahoo without needing to run his/her own hosting company e.t.c

    There were many people do that before but few now. As google has been successful already it is hard for you to start a new one.

    Personally I think it is impossible.

    I was just wondering from the technical point of view, not if users would like to use it & such stuff?

    I mean are there any pre-made web crawlers available on the web right now? and is somehow possible to make them work at other web hosts? I tried searching for web crawlers but did'nt seem to find any relevant results..
