It looks like majority of the directories are using phplinkdirectory. Does anyone here own a directory that they created from scratch (designed, coded etc...)? I am going to start a new directory project (16 directories total) from scratch. If anyone have any suggestions/features/improvements that phplinkdirectory currently don't have let me know and I will try to add it to mine. I will post the links here on dp when it's done so everyone can submit their sites for free.
So r u coder that will be able to hear to the suggestions? Well if ur coder , try to cache the thumbnails of sites images instead of relying on alexas thumbnails, or ask users to upload images of their site if possible. Also make more payment portals instead of paypal. Keep pr display option, add rating (if new version doesnt have it already ) by users. Make easy image verification system or something. Put who is online site feature and features to auto validate and insert links if they are in right category and have pagerank above say 1 or 2 . Cheers
1. enable multiple category submissions to the submit for a single link. 2. add sitewide text options controllable from within admin cpanel 3. add sitewide banner options controllable from within admin cpanel 4. add category specific text and banner option controllable from within admin cpanel 5. add Keywords input on submit 6. add addition important URLs on submit 7. yeah, i programmed "human ranked directory" wholly right from the start. It took me about 3-4 months of time, testing all my patience. Also building the directory taxonomy takes hell a lot of time than coding. if you wanna a build directory from scratch, be prepared to work and contribute enough time. Also i would recommend to build your site for quality.
Hey there, I'm also a coder and I coded my directory 100% from scratch. It was a lot of work but I really enjoy coding so I didn't look at it wasn't so bad. The url is www.linkalliance.net -- I'm not completely finished coding everything but the bulk of things are completed.
emz, your site looks real cool - colors, layout and all... good job... i'm a coder too - part-timer as a hobby... i coded indexscript from scratch during my spare-time over 2 months? tough work but satisfying... i think one of the most important features is to make the script real easy to customize look and feel. most users don't really use the advanced features but all users (even the newbies) want to have a unique look.
daboss, I use that script on a couple sites, for different purposes, thanks. I hope this doesn't mean you are abandoning IndexScript, I was looking forward to the updates.
Hey honcivex if you need beta tester for your script do let me know . Got plenty of databases and space on me.
