I have a friend who manages a business with many offices throughout our province. They have a website (really well done), but the webmaster has no SEO or IM skills whatsoever because you can't even see it in the first 10 pages of google organic results. This website has been up for well over a year now. I was thinking about setting them up an Adwords account, and then creating campaigns for this business. What would one charge to do this? I plan on giving them the Adwords bill, so they will pay those costs fully but how much should I charge for my time? I would like to charge a setup cost (to create the campaigns) as well as a monthly charge to maintain/tweak these campaigns. Web traffic would benefit their business tremendously, and I'm sure they would have no problems paying a hefty amount if it brought in new business. I want to be fair, but at the same time I also don't want to sell myself short in not charging enough. Is there a certain model I can use for charging? Per campaign? Per adgroup? They have over 30 offices. Any help would be appreciated.
Theres many different models that can be used: per hour, performance based, per campaign, flat rate, etc. How long have you been using adwords for?
About a month and a half, but I think I have a pretty good grasp on it. I don't think my friend will mind that as long as I get traffic to their site and that I can prove it through reporting. They are a walkin business, therefore obtaining new customers through the internet is just a "bonus", but it is not their main means of getting business. I have already done a bit of research and the competition is low so the bidding won't be that high.
I think you still have lots to learn before taking on client accounts. The biggest worry I would have is getting their domain slapped or even banned due to your inexperience. If this client does not want to have to use a new domain in the future due to branding issues, I would tread lightly or outsource the work to more qualified individuals.
