I've added a few links to my site on Wikipedia. BUT, my site is about sportbikes and streetfighter motorcycles, and I put the link under VERY relevant articles, such as one on streetfighters, so they didn't remove it. I don't think they care who the link comes from as long as it's relevant.

Each link may generate only a few clicks but if you have hundreds of pages with your link, it adds up. Plus the SEO benefits. However, before anyone rushes off to do this--make sure you focus on creating QUALITY content that people would really want to read.

I have my site listed on a Wiki article and it's been there for about 4 months now. I get a few hits from it but nothing major. My site is part of a community relating to a 'soccer' club though and it's got resources that other sites in the same niche don't offer - hence it being allowed I should imagine.

So far I've resisted adding links, but I did correct a couple of Wikipedia links to my site that were reported as dead because of incorrect hyphenation. It never hurts to search:

    Wikipedia: dead external links [yoursite.com]

In my opinion these are great links from a strong authority site.

I have posted my links on wikipedia and sometimes they get removed, especially if it is an advertising related page, however I have a page on there purely for information purposes with a pagelist (of my site) at the bottom for the sole purpose of getting all the pages indexed. I get about 5 visits a day and also some webmasters also copied the Wiki page on their site so that gives me extra links. :D

Yep, pure content pages rarely get removed. Specially if there's some added elements there that Wikipedia likes. If anyone needs wikipedia article writing services (100% fresh content), hit me up.

I have links to my site in several wikiopedia articles.
I think there are three things that determine if your site will stay:

    1) Is the link in a relavent article?
    2) How popular is the article? Are there a lot of people checking it for changes.
    3) The quallity of your website. (Does your website look like spam? eg lots of ads and affiliate links with little content)

Another thing to keep in mind...... if your competitors write to the same wikipedia page, you'll end up with your links pulled.

I know this thread is a little old, but I wanted to share some experiences I have with having my link on wikipedia. I did not add it myself, someone or an editor of wikipedia added sonicwildfire.com to the sonicwildfire wki page. I get probably 30 uniques a day from this link alone.

I do not have many other niche sites that this would work for, so most likely my links would be removed from the wiki page. But if you are able to get your link up, it can generate targeted traffic

If you have something to offer, then it an be VERY worthwhile! For instance, on my sportbike website, I have a guide to doing wheelies on a motorcycle. Well, I put a link to it in the Wikipedia article on Motorcycle Wheelies, and it has been there for about 3 months now, and I get over 350 hits a month from that 1 link. :D

I've submitted links on wikipedia pages that are relevant to my forum. I receive about 10-20 visitors a day from mainly one popular page. The only problem I have had is a competitor (As I assume) constantly removing my link, after a while of battling the link removal, they gave up.

I've added several sites to their relevant niche pages. All the sites I usually add are of quality and should ACTUALLY belong on the External Link sections.

I usually get a decent amount of traffic from WIKI. But, I really value the link power more then the traffic. It's a good quality site...so incoming links from there are excellent.

I doubt it was a competitor, probably an editor, they're VERY strict on outgoing links.

Probably because there's less editors to check it.

I've gotten some linkbacks on Wiki from PR's of 5 and higher none of them have been removed because my site is very relevant to the page. It didn't seem to help my PR all that much though.

Still i'm not sure, The Wiki page is for the Dodge Caliber, and the link I placed was for my forum at CaliberSRT4.net. There are other forums linked in the external links. One time when I placed my link back in the external links, I slightly changed the url of a competitor and when I checked back, my link was gone and theirs was fixed.
