Creating Backlinks AND Tracking URLs Using Article Marketing

    Hello,
    Question for everyone:

I've been using article marketing for a while using originally written articles. The driving force to date has been to generate opt-ins, which has been quite successful.

However, going forward, I'd like to also use it to generate backlinks.

    Why am I separating those?

Because right now, the way I track opt-ins is through a special viewer-friendly tracking url such as www.mydomain.com/articlename, which then re-directs to a 3rd party tracking service that cookies each user with a tracking ID, and then finally re-directs people back to the opt-in page on my website at www.mydomain.com/optinpage.html

I have this URL in my resource box at the bottom of the article and this records how many clicks and opt-ins I get from each article so I can track how each one is doing. This has been very helpful in determining what works and what doesn't.

However, as you can imagine, this presents a problem from an SEO perspective in that Google is indexing each tracking link as a unique URL. For example, it indexes www.mydomain.com/articlename and provides that with backlinks instead of giving the backlinks to www.mydomain.com/optinpage.html.

I've been reading how to use 301 re-directs to solve this problem, but not exactly sure.

Does anybody have an elegant solution that will allow me to both track how well each article is doing when it comes to clicks and opt-ins while ALSO giving me the ability to get backlinks to real pages that I want backlinks to?

I know this is a problem that many article marketers have run into and am hoping there is a simple technology solution available.

    Thanks.

    Marc
