Creating articles for more traffic

I have a web site that I get from 3000-5000 UVs per day from and make around $50 per day adsense. It has around 60k pages indexed by Google. It is a online classifieds site (think Trulia, Zillow etc). I am considering adding an articles section and creating some articles, submitting them to article directories, doing regular mail outs to registered users of my classifieds site etc.

Considering my site already has some pretty good love from Google, will this help with the articles in terms of generating traffic to my site, or will I still need to create 1000's of them to have any real effect. My initial plan was to create around 100 over the next month and see what effect it has. Do you think the effect will be measurable?

Go ahead and create the articles, but don't submit them to directories if they won't let you link back to your original copy. When you do create your articles though, try to get other sites to link to them (the original on your site, not the duplicates).

Dan, do you recommend any directories that will allow linking back to original article. I am being a bit lazy, could search for this myself, but if people recommend some good ones it is appreciated.

I don't engage in that sort of activity, so I honestly can't tell you either way.
