Creating an online newspaper site

One of my clients wants me to create an online newspaper website for them. What is the simplest way to do this without spending a bunch of money on software?

Can it be done with Wordpress? I am open to any suggestions. The client wants to be able to edit the site after I create it.

Usually I create sites using NetObjects and I do all editing. I need a way for the client to be able to edit site.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Go for wordpress or Joomla. probably wordpress would be best for them.
cause you can get a premium news design and it will be easy to use as well for your clients

I've built my site using Wordpress, so you could have a look at it, and with Wordpress you can give your client a log-in so they can add their own content and make changes as necessary..

Wordpress or similar would be just perfect for you. Lot of people use them as CMS sites. Plus there are free themes.

I definitely agree with the sentiment about Wordpress. It is made almost exclusively for making a blog (which is pretty much just an online newspaper). There are lots of free themes, as stated above, and it is relatively easy to customize, though it helps to know HTML/CSS/PHP.

The other nice thing about Wordpress is that there are tons of so-called "widgets" and "plugins" built for it, which are just mini add-ons that are easily managed by the average user.

I too would suggest WordPress and a premium theme. Here's a blog post I found on the subject, it might help :)
