Has anyone used the phpld directory script to start an online directory? I am thinking about doing this but am unsure about the full extent of creating it. Should i just setup something in dreamweaver and then changes the titles and all that or does the phpld script do the leg work ? Can i host it on a free .blogspot or .wordpress or should I host on the full whack hosting service and any suggestions to the best. I really have very little clue as to how this works. feel free to pm me if you rather not post here. Thanks
You can ask these questions on the pre-sale section of the phpLD forum. Full blown hosting would be recommended however any free hosting with MySQL and without insane limitations should work. --> http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum
Hello mellowmuppet, i use it on 4 general directories, the script will do the leg work for you, it leaves you with the chance to manage and promote your web directory then. You would want to choose paid hosting and can get it cheaply, usually between $5-$10 monthly, i use hostgator but im not recommending to only look at one host, look around at different hosts, you can get it for less than $5 per month. As falsealarm says, you can always pop over to their forum if you want, theres a chance your questions are asked or can be answered.
Hi mellowmuppet, i use phpld also in my directory and its the most complete script that i have ever found to suit my needs. I dont think you can host it on .blogspot or .wordpress but i am sure that you can get some cheap hosting for it. The free version(vs: 2) of phpld is good, but when you will try the phpld version 3 you will love it. And the best of all is you have phpld forum support, you can easily get access to tons of imformation about phpld and when you get stuck someone will care to help you out. Hope this helps, Regards.
You can not use blogspot or wordpress for hosting phpld directories. You need to be able to create a mysql db for the script to work. phpLd installation guide
No. They are blog hosts. They dont allow for any extra files, let alone php/mysql connections. Get some decent hosting and install it. You can edit the template files like any other HTML file. I use notepad.
