I'm trying to create a viral website dedicated to facebook 'lawls' (something you'd see on facebook that would make you laugh). I'm almost done working on the website but have a landing page up in the meantime to collect submissions: www.lawlbook.com I was wondering what your ideas are on the best place to advertise something like this, to both A) get traffic once the site is launched B) entice users to actually submit content (everything I have so far I had to search the internet to find. Eventually I want people to actually submit screenshots in for me to use). I'm looking for advertising solutions that are free in the meantime (so no adsense or facebook ads). So far I've posted on kijiji and digg. I'm working on an album in Flickr and created a Facebook fan page (not yet live). I'm assuming the best way to advertise a viral website is through viral means - a place where people will share links (think fmylife.com and passiveaggressivenotes.com). Any suggestions will be appreciated! I'm actually documenting this whole process at my blog as well, so if anyone would like to follow along and see how well this experiment works feel free to visit: www.spiffyowl.com
Takes some work, but YouTube is easily the best way to do the viral thing IMO and it is free as well. Aint easy throwing these vids together though.
go to YouTube Post tons of interesting videos and be active there. Also make comments and replays on others videos, in order to attract more traffic to your videos
I say start advertising on Facebook. maybe make an app or something for people to submit their photos or make a facebook group. Theres plenty of ways to advertise for free on Facebook
Video promotion is a great way if you can share very good video to the people on youtube, and a great number of visitors will come to your site!
is it better to make your own videos on youtube or to download other people videos and upload again??
The best way is social networking sites for publishing. Where you can make good & permanent unique visitors for your site
Youtube is an interesting idea, but I don't think it will work for me medium. I'm trying to share photos / written content, I can't think of a way to make that into a viral video!
If you want to go viral, take advantage of social media. From facebook pages to twitter to video sharing sites, etc.
